Mission & Vision

EUSOI’s mission is to promote excellence in the care of patients with ocular inflammation through education, research and professional collaboration. The society supports the dissemination of high-quality clinical and scientific knowledge, encourages best practice and fosters the development of future leaders in the field.

The long-term vision of EUSOI is a Europe in which ocular inflammatory diseases are recognised early, managed according to robust evidence and coordinated across disciplines and borders. By building a strong professional community, EUSOI seeks to reduce the burden of visual morbidity, support patient-centred care and drive innovation in diagnostics and therapies.

About the European Society of Ocular Inflammation (EUSOI)

The European Society of Ocular Inflammation (EUSOI) is a professional, non-profit organisation dedicated to advancing the understanding, diagnosis and management of ocular inflammatory diseases. By connecting clinicians, researchers and allied health professionals across Europe and beyond, EUSOI aims to improve outcomes and quality of life for people living with ocular inflammation.

Who We Are

EUSOI brings together ophthalmologists, rheumatologists, immunologists and other clinicians with a special interest in ocular inflammation and uveitis. Members also include basic and translational scientists, epidemiologists and researchers working to advance knowledge in this field.

The society is multidisciplinary and pan-European, welcoming participants from diverse healthcare systems, academic institutions and professional backgrounds. Allied health professionals, nurses, optometrists and trainees are integral to the EUSOI community, contributing to comprehensive, team-based approaches to patient care.

What We Do

EUSOI organises scientific meetings and congresses that provide up-to-date content on clinical practice, research and emerging therapies in ocular inflammation. These events encourage open discussion, case-based learning and the exchange of experience across countries and disciplines.

The society supports ongoing education through courses, workshops and online learning opportunities designed for both established specialists and colleagues in training. EUSOI also promotes collaborative research, facilitates scientific exchange and provides spaces for young members to present their work and develop their careers.

In addition, EUSOI works together with partner organisations, patient representatives and other stakeholders to strengthen awareness of ocular inflammation and to contribute to the development of guidelines and standards where appropriate.

History & Development

EUSOI was established in response to the growing recognition that ocular inflammation requires coordinated, specialised expertise. Clinicians and researchers from across Europe came together to create a dedicated forum in which to share experience, harmonise approaches and encourage collaborative projects.

Since its foundation, the society has steadily expanded its membership and activities, reflecting the increasing complexity of inflammatory eye diseases and their management. EUSOI continues to evolve in step with scientific developments, with a focus on supporting both current and future generations of specialists.

Governance & Structure

EUSOI is led by an Executive Board that provides strategic direction and oversees the society’s main activities. The Board works in close collaboration with committees and working groups that focus on areas such as education, scientific programmes, membership and communication.

This flexible organisational structure is designed to ensure transparency, encourage member engagement and allow EUSOI to adapt as the field of ocular inflammation develops. Leadership roles and responsibilities are periodically reviewed to remain aligned with the society’s mission and vision.
